Purpose-built by Ford for the legendary Group B regulations, the RS200 was a radical departure from the company's traditional rally cars. Its mid-mounted turbocharged engine, four-wheel-drive system and lightweight purpose-built chassis created one of the most distinctive and technologically ambitious rally cars of the 1980s.

The 1986 Swedish Rally was particularly significant for the RS200, marking the car's World Rally Championship debut. Former World Rally Champion and Swedish specialist Stig Blomqvist demonstrated the new Ford's potential on the demanding snow and ice stages, bringing the No. 1 RS200 home 3rd overall.
